Low Wins MBC Indian Ocean Amateur Golf Open 2017
Newly promoted Elite Squad player Low Wee Jin was victorious at the MCB Indian Ocean Amateur Golf Open 2017. The tournament took place at the multi-award winning championship golf course located in the southern part of the beautiful island of Mauritius, Heritage Golf Club in Bel Ombre from the 22nd to the 24th September.
One of the favourite players of this edition, Low’s three-day total of 219 was closely followed by the South-African Louis Albertse and the Mauritian Rakesh Channoo who took both carded 223, but a better game for Albertse during the last round secured him second place while Channoo took third.
The tournament, played in 54 holes strokeplay saw some fifty golfers from Singapore, Bulgaria, India, Reunion Island, Mauritius and South Africa were present for the fifth edition.
Organised by the Mauritius Golf Federation, the MCB Indian Ocean Amateur Golf Open aims at being the major event for amateur golfers from the Indian Ocean.
According to Christophe Curé, the President of the Mauritius Golf Federation, “this open will be taking more and more importance each year in terms of “elite” players’ participation. This tournament gives the opportunity to our local golfers to compete with the regional elite as well as with some players at international level. This will be a very good training for our national team in view of the African championships in two weeks”.
