Ong and Tan Triumphs at the 9th Warren-MST Amateur Open Playoffs
Marc Ong sank his birdie putt on the first playoff hole to capture the Warren MST Amateur Open Championship on Thursday at Warren Golf and Country Club.
Abdul Hadi held a two-stroke lead going into the final round and started strong with birdies on the par 5 2nd and 8th. Three bogeys down the stretch saw him finish his final round with a one-over 72 and a three-day total of even par 213 at Warren Golf and Country Club.
On the other hand, Marc Ong rallied back from 3 bogeys in his first six holes of the final round with 4 birdies to settle on top of the leader board with joint leader Abdul Hadi.
On the final hole, Marc narrowly missed his 15-foot birdie putt to settle with a tap in par finishing with a one-under 70 and a three-day total of even par 213. All eyes were on Hadi as he confidently holed his 4-foot par putt to force a play-off.
Marc brought over his exceptional play to the first playoff hole on 18th again by hitting his approach shot to about 15 feet from the hole. Hadi’s approach shot missed the green and he narrowly missed a chip in birdie attempt to eventually settle for a par.
With the ominous clouds overhanging the background, Marc rolled in his birdie putt to win the Warren MST-Amateur Open Championship (Men’s Division) for the third time.
Shannon Tan took overall honours when she beat fellow competitor, Inez Ng on the first playoff hole.
The Ladies Division saw joint leaders Shannon Tan and Inez Ng heading into the playoff when both players carded identical scores of 80 in the final round for a three-day total of 232.
The first playoff hole was played on the 18th. Inez Ng missed her approach shot and settled for a bogey after she missed her long par attempt.
Shannon Tan made an exceptional up and down by sinking her subsequent putt for par to capture this year’s Warren MST-Amateur Open Championship (Ladies division).
